MEMA AND PAPA'S HOUSE

MEMA AND PAPA'S HOUSE

We will always remember Christmas at MeMa's and PaPa's. A big part of the magic was wrapped up in the smells and tastes emanating from MeMa's kitchen.

A big bowl of fruit adorned the buffet and PaPa shared bananas and apple juice with the grandkids. MeMa's candy dish was always full of orange slice candy, orange peanuts, peppermint, chocolate creams, candy corn and chocolate covered cherries.

Homemade cakes and pies were plentiful. It wasn't Christmas without MeMa's Japanese Fruitcake, Coconut Cake, Nut Caramel Cake and Chocolate Cake. She made her cakes from scratch and each one had 5 or 6 thin layers with ample icing in between. Pecan pies were made with cane syrup, or corn syrup. The ones wthout the nuts, she called syrup pies.
